Nicholas Pooran has been in top form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He holds the orange cap - for a reason. He has been absolutely brutal against the spinners. You bowl wide, he will smash you in the V front of the wicket, you pull the length back, he will sweep or pull you over deep mid-wicket or deep square-leg, and if you flight the ball, he will dance down the track and dispatch you over the fence.
The spinners have been unable to keep him in check, as his strike rate is 290 and average is 145. What's more staggering is that he hits a boundary every 1.9 deliveries and a six every 3.1 deliveries against them—the best in the league (at least 30 balls).
If you further break down his spin game, he has been the most severe against left-arm orthodox (SR 383.3), off-spinners (312.5), leg-spinners (281.8), and left-arm wristspin (166.7).
With Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram firing along with Pooran, it has eased the pressure on LSG, so much so that they have scored more than 200 in three of the five matches without Rishabh Pant doing anything of significance. That was the case even against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 8 (Tuesday), as he finished unbeaten on 87 off 36.
With their batters doing the job, the pressure will be on their bowlers to do the job as well. Shardul Thakur, Akash Deep, Avesh Khan and Digvesh Singh Rathi have played their roles well, but can they keep this up in LSG's quest to claim their maiden title?
After all, they spent a world record fee for their captain and would surely be expecting swift results.
