On June 17 (Monday), India women’s pace bowler Niranjana Nagarajan announced her retirement from all formats of the sport, having last made an appearance for the national team in 2016.
The now 35-year-old has represented the country in 2016 against Sri Lanka in Ranchi, where her figures were 0/7 in three overs, including a maiden. Following impressive displays for Tamil Nadu, Nagarajan was first picked in the national setup in August 2008 for the U-21s side before making her debut against England at Bath.
Nagarajan has made 38 appearances for the national team, including two Tests, and finished with 37 wickets. She announced her retirement on Instagram.
"Playing cricket at a professional level has been the best thing that could have happened to me, for everything in life commenced with it," Nagarajan wrote in an Instagram post.
"Playing this game gave me a vision, ambition and reason to look forward in life. I am grateful, blessed and thankful to have played this sport for 24 years at a professional level and when I look back at it, the journey has been nothing less than beautiful and I will be carrying the lovely warm memories it gave me along the way through my life."
