After featuring in the first two One-Day Internationals, a fresh injury has ruled Nitish Kumar Reddy out of the Sydney ODI on October 25 (Saturday). The 22-year-old has injured his left quadriceps, which he sustained during India’s two-wicket loss in the second ODI in Adelaide.
The all-rounder didn’t have much of an impact across the two ODIs, scoring just 27 runs with the bat and bowling a paltry 5.1 overs. While the expectations were that the all-rounder would turn his form around in Sydney, his fresh injury now comes as a blow before the two-match Test series against South Africa.
"Nitish Kumar Reddy sustained a left quadriceps injury during the second ODI in Adelaide and was subsequently unavailable for selection for the third ODI. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring him on a daily basis," said BCCI in an official statement.
Reddy only returned from his previous injury during the two-match Test series against West Indies, where he hardly got an opportunity with the ball. The all-rounder was expected to be part of India’s setup for the two-Test assignment against South Africa, but will now have to wait till he gets a medical clearance.
The 22-year-old’s injury could pave the way for someone like Sarfaraz Khan to return to India’s squad for the South Africa series.
