Nitish Rana, the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders has been fined INR 24 lakhs after his team maintained a slow over-rate in their six-wicket win against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday, May 14.
The Knight Riders have been guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate for the second time as they first breached the Code of Conduct in a league match against Punjab Kings on May 8.
"As it was his team's second offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Rana has been fined Rs. 24 lakhs, and each member of the Playing XI, including the impact substitute, is fined Rs. 6 lakhs or 25 per cent of the match fee, whichever is lesser," stated the official press release.
The visiting side produced an all-around performance in Chepauk to record a comprehensive win and stay alive in the competition. After being asked to bat first, they restricted Chennai to 144 runs in the first innings, with Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy scalping two wickets each.
In reply, Rana and Rinku Singh forged a 99-run stand for the fourth wicket and smashed crucial half-centuries to guide the team over the line by six wickets.
The Knight Riders will now face Lucknow Super Giants for their final league game in an evening encounter on Saturday, May 20, at Eden Gardens.
