Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Nitish Rana has been fined INR 12 lakhs after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their league match against Punjab Kings at the Eden Gardens on Monday, May 8.
"As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rana was fined Rs 12 lakhs," said IPL in a release.
Kolkata Knight Riders produced an all-around performance to gain vital two points against Punjab and move to number five in the points table.
After being asked to field first, Varun Chakaravarthy picked three wickets for 26 runs in his quota of four overs to restrict the visiting side to 179 runs in the first innings.
In reply, the captain led from the front and smashed 51 off 38 deliveries, studded with six boundaries and one massive six to lay a solid foundation for the home.
While he was dismissed in the 16th over, Andre Russell and Rinku Singh ensured the Knight Riders did not face any hiccups and guided the team over the line by five wickets.
The Knight Riders will now face Rajasthan Royals on Thursday, May 11, at the Eden Gardens.
