No Asia Cup, No Problem As Mohammad Rizwan Set For Maiden CPL Stint
The wicketkeeper-batter will also play for Melbourne Renegades in the BBL later this year
Pakistan ODI captain Mohammad Rizwan has been picked by the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) side St Kitts & Nevis Patriots for the remainder of the season. The wicketkeeper-batter replaces Fazlhaq Farooqi, according to a report on ESPNCricinfo.
Afghanistan pacer Farooqi will join the Afghanistan side ahead of the T20I tri-series also involving Pakistan and the UAE. The series is a build-up for the Asia Cup, starting next month, which Rizwan is not a part of. Other than not making the squad, Rizwan has also been demoted to Category B in PCB's central contracts list.
This will be Rizwan's first-ever stint in the CPL. It remains to be seen if he will make his debut on August 21 (Thursday) against the Barbados Royals. With Rizwan joining the CPL, he will not be allowed to join any other league as the PCB has put a cap on two leagues that their centrally contracted players would be allowed to participate in over 12 months, starting July.
Rizwan has already signed up for the Melbourne Renegades for the upcoming edition of the Big Bash League (BBL). The Patriots, who won the CPL in 2017 and 2021, sit second bottom on the points table after three back-to-back losses.
