NEWSMohammed Shami was the pick of the Indian bowlers on Day Two of the Headingley Test, finishing the day with 3 for 87, accounting for wickets of Rory Burns, Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler. Shami insisted that there was plenty of time in the Test and there was no need to feel low.
"No, my friend, mentally (it does not affect), we have finished matches in three days, many matches we have finished in two days. Sometimes when we have a bad day or we get out early in a Test match in the first innings and we have to field for long."
"It happens sometimes, but there is no need to feel low because still there are two Tests left, Shami said at the virtual post-day press conference after the second day's play, when asked how such a day affects the team mentally in the middle of the series.
Joe Root scored his third consecutive century to give England a 345-run lead after bowling India out for just 78. Shami adds that as bowlers it is their responsibility to pick up wickets. "It is your responsibility when there is a long partnership from the opposition. It is your job, to take wickets, you have to plan in your mind on how to get the (batsman) out," Shami said.
Barring Ishant Sharma, all the Indian bowlers managed to pick up at least one wicket. India lead the five-match series 1-0, thanks to a 109-run victory in the previous Test at Lord's.
