Northamptonshire snap up services of Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw will be part of the County Championship and the Royal London One-Day Cup

Indian opener Prithvi Shaw has reportedly signed a deal with the Northamptonshire for the remainder of the 2023 County Championship. The right-handed opener is also expected to play in the Royal London One-Day Cup, which starts in August. Shaw is expected to join the county after the ongoing Duleep Trophy season ends.

Whilst the right-hander might have fallen down the pecking order, a good County season could well put him back on the map for future Indian selection. It also gives him a prime opportunity to work on his weakness against the swinging delivery, which will be very common in the United Kingdom.

Despite playing in Division One, Northamptonshire has just won one game out of the seven, and the right-hander will have to play a steady hand in the remainder of the season - seven games. Shaw will become the fifth Indian cricketer after Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Arshdeep Singh and Navdeep Saini.

Shaw made an immediate impact in the Indian colours when he notched up a brilliant century on his debut against West Indies. However, since then, his career has tapered off, with the right-hander being dropped from the Indian setup following the tour against Australia. His last appearance in an Indian jersey was on July 25, when he made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka.

The youngster is coming to Duleep Trophy on the back of a dismal IPL season, where he scored just 106 runs in eight matches averaging 13.25 for the Delhi Capitals.
