All of eight Tests old, South Africa’s Senuran Muthusamy is already proving to be quite the all-rounder.
He entered the second Test against India with a batting average of 46.50 and bowling average of 26.50 and was South Africa’s best player in the Test series against Pakistan, which the Proteas drew 1-1. There, he took 11 wickets in the first match and then backed it up with a match-winning 89* in the second Test that set-up a sensational win for the defending World Test Champions.
Today in Guwahati, Muthusamy further extended his incredible start in Tests by achieving a record managed by only three other South African batters in history.
Muthusamy brought up his fifty in the first session today, and it meant that he had fifties in three subcontinent countries - India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. He joined a very rare and elite list as he became only the fourth-ever South African batter to hit a Test fifty in all three aforementioned countries.

Senuran Muthusamy*
It’s indeed a pretty rare feat as some of the greatest South African batters in history such as AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis and Hashim Amla have not managed to do what Muthusamy has done.
At the time of writing this report, Muthusamy is batting on 56*, with South Africa 316/6 in their first innings. The Proteas began day 2 on 247/6 but navigated the entire first session without losing a wicket.
