Haris Rauf, who is one of the most aggressive pacers in the world, was apparently fined 30 percent of his match fees for doing political actions while playing in a Super Four match against India in the Asia Cup 2025.
He was imitating a plane crash, most probably indicating the tensions that escalated between India and Pakistan and saw fighter jets being used from both sides.
However, the 30 percent of match fees would be borne by Mohsin, the chairperson of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), as well as the President of the Pakistan Cricket Board and Federal Minister of Interior Affairs in the Shahbaz Sharif Cabinet of the Pakistan Government.
“Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi will pay the fine imposed on Haris Rauf personally, according to a report on Samaa TV,” News18 wrote in a report.
This generally indicates patronage from PCB for a player who has committed an offence by being political in the field of sports, which is not allowed by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Along with Rauf, Sahibzada Farhan of Pakistan and Suryakumar Yadav of India were reprimanded by the match referee, Richie Richardson.
While Farhan used his bat to showcase a gun and imitated firing through it after hitting fifty in that game. The BCCI had lodged an official complaint in that matter.
Earlier, Pakistan had complained after India skipper Surya dedicated the group stage match win against Pakistan on September 14 to victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. The ICC appointed referee acted on those two complaints as well.
Both teams will next meet in the final of the event on September 28 (Sunday) in Dubai.
