Not In Position To Choose Where I Want To Bat In Tests: Sai Sudharsan

The left-hander has batted in multiple positions in his short first-class career

Sai Sudharsan is extremely excited to be part of India’s Test squad for the five-match series in England, starting on June 20, but the left-handed batter is not sure where he will bat.

Sudharsan, who has been in great form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, has 1957 runs in 29 first-class games at an average of almost 40.

“It feels great, very special and surreal. Any young cricketer who starts playing cricket wants to play Test cricket, it’s the ultimate goal. I’m really grateful. I know my parents will be happy today,” he said in the press conference.

Sudharsan, who has hit 638 runs @ 53.16 in the IPL 2025, averages 42.33 in 33 first-class innings as an opener, which comes down to 34.88 in eight innings at No.3. He also has six innings at No.6, where he has scored 272 runs @ 45.33.

“Playing for the country itself is a very big privilege. I don’t think I’m in a position to choose which position I want to play.”

Talking about switching from the 20-over format to red-ball cricket, Sudharsan said: “Transitioning from white ball to red ball takes a bit of time.

“I focus a lot more on my basics and patience. Even outside the field, the more patient you are, the more it reflects inside the field. So, Test cricket is all about patience and longevity. The more I focus on that, the more I’ll be aware of it. It will be a great experience.”
