Nehal Wadhera, one of the stars of the Punjab Kings (PBKS)’ win against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on June 1 (Sunday) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, said that the team’s skipper Shreyas Iyer is the ‘chase master’, a term which for the longest time, has been associated with India’s modern-day great Virat Kohli.
Kohli, who plays for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL, will be awaiting the PBKS in the final of the 2025 season, having already beaten them in Qualifier 1 earlier this season.
Wadhera, speaking in the post-match interview about Iyer, said, “He is a chase master and proved it today as well. Lots of learning from him and I hope we carry forward the momentum and win against RCB as well.”
Iyer, who hit a magnificent 87* off 41 balls to take his team to the highest chase in IPL playoff history, was pumped about the fact that he will have yet another opportunity to win a title, having done that last year with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) already.
“I love such big occasions. I always say to myself and to my colleagues in the team that the bigger the occasion, the calmer you are, you get the big results. I know the more time I spend on the field, the better I get, and my vision also gets better”, Iyer said about his knock on yet another big occasion.
“I'm just staying in the moment, I want to cherish this. The job is only half done,” he added, intending very well that he wants to win the title.
Skipper of the losing side, Hardik Pandya, said that better execution was needed from his bowlers as Jasprit Bumrah, one of their trump cards, went wicketless in this game.
“I think we were not able to execute the way we wanted. If we had to do something better, it was maybe someone bowling the right lengths or maybe the right bowler at the right point, the result could have been a bit different. Jassi (Bumrah) can be Jassi, and he can do something special, and it just didn't happen today,” he said.
