The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are experiencing a shambolic 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). They have lost seven out of nine games so far.
Not only is this the first time that CSK have lost seven of its first nine games in a season, but it is also only the second instance that the yellow brigade have lost four games in a row at Chepauk. They even lost against Sunrisers Hyderabad for the first time in Chepauk.
CSK continue to stay at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table and will now need a miracle to qualify for the playoffs. MS Dhoni and Co. don’t only need to win all their remaining five games but will also need a lot of results to go in their favour.
Speaking after the match against SRH, head coach Stephen Fleming acknowledged the support CSK has received every time in Chepauk, and said that the team feels heavy after not being able to reward their loyalty with performances.
“Well, we are aware of the support and it is not just at home, it extends throughout India," Fleming said.
“We understand the effect that MS Dhoni has with our support, but when we see the amount of yellow that turns up game after game, certainly here at Chepauk, but when we are around the country experiencing that, there is a responsibility that we feel and it is a heavy one. And to not reward that with performances weighs very heavy on the group.”
Fleming added that the team is quite disappointed after not performing for the fans at home, leaving the team feeling “very empty.”
"When they come to play for Chennai, one of the things they look forward to is being yellow in front of a yellow crowd and to not perform up to our expectations, but more importantly the fans' expectations, leaves us very empty,” CSK's Kiwi coach said.
