The future for South Africa seems Bright As Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) youngster Jordan Hermann blasts an unbeaten 186 off just 153 deliveries in the third unofficial One-Day International (ODI) against New Zealand A in Pretoria on September 3 (Wednesday).
The Southpaw struck as many as 26 fours and three sixes to help South Africa A post a massive 348/5 in their 50 overs. This knock will certainly have caught the selectors' eye as an ODI debut could be on the cards sooner rather than later.
Across the three seasons for the SEC, Hermann has smashed 666 runs, which includes three fifties and a ton in 29 innings.
With Youngsters like Ryan Rickelton and Lhuan-dre Pretorius getting their due chances at the international stage, it may not be long before the 23-year-old too gets a call-up. In fact, only five South African cricketers have scored more runs in an innings in List A cricket.
Chad Bowes 205
Mitchell Van Buuren 200
Garnett Tarr 192*
Gary Kirsten 188* (ODI)
David Bedingham 188*
Jordan Hermann 186*
Hermann's knock is the second-highest score for South Africa A after Bedingham's 188*.
Hermann's brother Rubin made his T20 International (T20I) debut recently in the tri-series featuring Zimbabwe and New Zealand. In his five games in that series, he smashed 130 runs at a strike rate of 132.65.
In fact, Rubin smashed an unbeaten 158 and 109 in the first two unofficial ODIs against New Zealand A, while his brother too has a couple of centuries, hitting 101* in the second game and smashing a big ton today as well.
We could potentially see both brothers turn up for the senior Proteas team together at some point if they keep this up.
