OFFICIAL: Namibia Become 16th Team To Qualify For 2026 T20 World Cup

Zimbabwe or Kenya will join them at the mega event later today

Namibia will be featuring in yet another T20 World Cup as the Gerhard Erasmus-led side, today in Harare, became the 16th team overall and second African team to qualify for the 2026 T20 World Cup in India & Sri Lanka, after beating Tanzania in the first semi-final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Region Final.

They will be joined at the mega event by either Zimbabwe or Kenya, who are playing the second semi-final later today to determine the final spot from Africa.

Namibia, who powered through the group stages with ease, made light work of Tanzania too, registering a 63-run win to book their spot in next year’s mega event. They posted 174/6 thanks to fifties from Erasmus (55) and JJ Smit (61*) and then restricted Tanzania to just 111/8. Ben Shikongo and Smit both picked three-fers to seal T20WC qualification for the African Nation.

2026 will be Namibia’s fourth straight Men’s T20WC appearance, having qualified in 2021, 2022 & 2024. They won a match in the 2024 T20WC - beating Oman - but were unable to make it through to the Super 8s.

Namibia, as mentioned above, are the 16th team to qualify for the mega event. The other teams are India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, United States, West Indies, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, Canada, Italy and Netherlands. Zimbabwe or Kenya will be the 17th team, and the last three spots will be decided at the ICC Mens T20 World Cup East Asia Pacific Qualifier 2025.

The 2026 T20WC is expected to be played across February and March 2026, and it will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
