England have been dealt with yet another injury scare as ace speedster Ollie Robinson is set to undergo a scan on a sore left ankle after experiencing discomfort in the area during Sussex’s County Championship clash against Glamorgan at the County Ground in Hove.
Robinson, who took 14 wickets in Sussex’s last encounter against Worcestershire, picked a four-fer in the first innings of the Glamorgan clash. Much to the amusement of the English supporters, he trapped Marnus Labuschagne LBW on the first ball he bowled to the Queenslander.
However, after bowling 17 overs in the second innings, Robinson did not take the field post the morning session on Day 3 after experiencing discomfort at the base of his lower leg.
Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace confirmed that Robinson had been withdrawn from the game as precaution, but confirmed that the 29-year-old will undergo a scan on Monday.
“Ollie has a sore left ankle and he will be scanned on Monday to see how bad he is. We knew it was sore (on Friday),” Fabrace said.
“We got one spell out of him this morning and he tried his hardest. It was a long spell and he got stuck in. He knew it would be one spell and one spell only and then he was off, that was it for the day.
“It was precautionary. There was no point in making it worse. It’s walking more than the running in. He was all right running in down the slope. It’s a joint decision between the Sussex medical team and the England medical team.
“(As) much as we want him out there bowling and taking wickets it’s not fair on him to make the injury worse, so there was good conversation last night and again this morning.”
Robinson is the second English pacer to pick up a niggle in as many weeks. Last week, James Anderson picked up a groin strain that has put him in doubt for the one-off Test against Ireland at Lord’s. England, though, are confident that Anderson will recover in time for the Ashes.
