T Natarajan tests positive for Covid-19; six close contacts isolated

The match between SRH and DC will go ahead as scheduled, the IPL has announced

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 has once again been hit by a Covid-19 case as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) fast bowler T Natarajan has tested positive for Covid-19. He however remains asymptomatic

Six close contacts - Vijay Shankar  (Player) Vijay Kumar (Team Manager), Shyam Sundar J (Physiotherapist), Anjana Vannan (Doctor), Tushar Khedkar  (Logistics Manager) and Periyasamy Ganesan (Net Bowler) - have been isolated.

SRH are scheduled to play Delhi Capitals (DC) later today (September 22) in Dubai. According to a media release from IPL, the match will go ahead as scheduled.

"The rest of the contingent including the close contacts underwent RT-PCR tests at 5 AM local time this morning and the test reports are negative. As a result, tonight's game between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals will go ahead at the Dubai International Stadium, Dubai," the release said.

The IPL 2021 was abandoned in May after a surge of Covid-19 cases in India. The tournament was moved to the UAE, where the second phase commenced on September 19.

Three matches have taken place in the second phase so far, with 28 more matches, including the playoffs and the final yet to be played.
