For most of the matches in this series, India have held the upper hand, but England have fought back to go in and win the Test. Be it in the first Test at Lord's or the third match at Lord's, it seemed as though India would get the win, but it was England who claimed victory in the end.
However, on the final day of the series at The Oval, India hung on to their advantage and got the job done, courtesy of a superb fifer from Mohammed Siraj at The Oval.
Explaining the series through tennis nomenclature, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar believes India won more sets, but England won more games.
“Overall, if you add up all the games, it’s a bit like that - one team has won more games, the other more sets,” Gavaskar said on Sony Sports Network, according to Hindustan Times.
“You could say that, but at the end of the day, it’s the result that matters. Unless India win this game and level the series, you have to admit that England are the better team. It doesn’t matter how many sessions you’ve won,” he further added.
India bounced back at Edgbaston after going 1-0 down at Headingley and at The Oval, they levelled the series 2-2 after losing a close one at Lord's, making Shubman Gill's first Test series as captain a memorable one.
