Oval Invincibles Rebranded As MI London After Reliance - Surrey Deal Comes Through

The agreement, which finalises the ECB’s sale of all eight teams, grants Reliance and the Ambanis a 49% stake in the franchise

Oval Invincibles, the most decorated franchise in The Hundred, will be renamed MI London from the 2026 season following the completion of an ownership deal between Surrey County Cricket Club and Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). The agreement, which finalises the ECB’s sale of all eight teams, grants RIL a 49% stake in the franchise, with Surrey retaining a 51% stake. The team was valued at £123 million, making it the second-most valuable in the competition.

The rebrand integrates the franchise into Reliance’s expanding global cricket portfolio, which includes Mumbai Indians (IPL), MI Cape Town (SA20), MI Emirates (ILT20) and MI New York (Major League Cricket). Both the men’s and women’s Invincibles squads will continue under the MI London identity.

Surrey had initially sought to retain the Invincibles brand, historically linked with the Kia Oval and associated with multiple titles, but agreed to the change as part of the final arrangement. With the deal concluded, MI London enters a new phase in The Hundred, backed by one of global cricket’s most influential franchise groups and carrying forward the legacy of the competition’s most successful side.

Surrey chairman Oli Slipper said the partnership enhances both the county's and The Hundred's competitive and commercial capabilities.

“We’re pleased to have reached an agreement with the Reliance team over our partnership in the Hundred franchise team. Reliance bring a significant depth of cricket and business expertise and have had great success with their franchise teams in India and around the world — there's no doubt that they are here to win. They are passionate cricket people and together we will continue the success of our two teams,” Slipper said.

He added that the rebranding aligns with strategic goals.

“We have worked very closely with Reliance over the name of the new team and believe that MI London will give us the best opportunity to build the fanbase at home and across the world. We also believe that the team brand will help to grow the commercial value of our franchise, in turn boosting investment into the long-term sustainable growth of Surrey and of cricket in our community.”

Akash Ambani said the team’s pedigree aligns with the Mumbai Indians' ethos.

“We are happy to welcome MI London into the #OneFamily, marking a new chapter in our journey of uniting cricket fans, nurturing talent, and growing the game across continents,” the Indian Billionaire said.

“The Invincibles' winning record and spirit of excellence perfectly embody the MI ethos of passion, resilience and teamwork. Building on our shared passion for cricket, we look forward to collaborating with our partners at Surrey CCC and building on the legacy of The Hundred's most successful team.”
