Rachin Ravindra Rushed Off The Field After Nasty Blow Leaves Him Bleeding

His face was covered with a towel and an ice pack as he was taken off the field

An extremely scary incident took place in the second innings of the first ODI of the tri-series between Pakistan and New Zealand on February 9. Rachin Ravindra had to be rushed off the field after being hit on the face by a Khushdil Shah shot.

In the 38th over of the chase, left-hander Khushdil Shah hoicked one from Michael Bracewell towards Ravindra at mid-wicket. Khushdil mistimed the hit and the ball looked like it was heading straight into the hands of the fielder.

However, Ravindra lost it in the lights, and the ball ended up hitting him flush in the face.

The horror unfolded immediately as Ravindra started bleeding profusely, seemingly due to a deep cut on his forehead. The crowd went dead silent and the scenes were so nasty that even the producers shied away from showing live visuals and instead panned to the crowd.

The shock persisted for a good two minutes, but thankfully, Ravindra received medical assistance immediately and was rushed off the field with his face was covered with a towel and an ice pack.

After Ravindra left the field, there was a very warm moment as the Lahore crowd gave a big round of applause. Normalcy resumed after that as play restarted.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) later confirmed that Ravindra was doing 'well' and came through well in the initial Health Impact Assessment (HIA).

"He sustained a laceration to the forehead which has been addressed and treated at the ground, but is otherwise well," NZC said.

"He came through his first HIA well and will continue to be monitored under HIA processes."
