Follow UsPakistan have become the 20th and final team to publicly announce their 15-person squad for the T20 World Cup in the USA & Caribbean next month, and there are no major surprises barring the exclusion of Hasan Ali, who was initially named in Pakistan’s squad for the four-match T20I series against England. However, even Hasan’s exclusion does not come as a surprise given the speedster was released from the squad ahead of the England series to play for Warwickshire.
Outside Hasan Ali, all-rounders Irfan Khan and Agha Salman are the other two individuals who have not found themselves in the T20 World Cup squad despite being part of the squad for the four-match series against England.
The side will be led by Babar Azam for the third T20WC running. Under Azam’s leadership, Pakistan reached the semi-final of the T20WC in UAE in 2021 before going one better and reaching the final in the T20WC in Australia in 2022. There’s been no deputy named for Babar but either Shaheen Afridi or Shadab Khan will fill-in for the 29-year-old if need be.
Of the 15 players, Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Saim Ayub and Usman Khan have been picked for their maiden T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim last appeared in the 2016 and 2021 tournaments, respectively.
The PCB have opted to not announce any traveling reserves, at this point in time.
