Pakistan Equal Kenya, Script EMBARASSING RECORD After Champions Trophy Exit
The last time a host finished bottom of the table was in the 2009 Champions Trophy, where South Africa finished fourth
After the washout against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, Pakistan finished bottom of Group A in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
As a result, they became the only team apart from Kenya in Champions Trophy history to not win a single game despite being the host. Kenya achieved the unwanted feat in 2000 when the tournament was a ‘Knockout Cup’, and they lost to India in their only game of the competition.
The last time a host finished bottom of the table was in the 2009 Champions Trophy, where South Africa finished fourth in a group comprising themselves, Sri Lanka, England and New Zealand.
There were high expectations from Pakistan, given they were hosting an ICC event for the first time since 1996, but the mega event has ended in rather ignominious fashion for Mohammad Rizwan’s side, who have exited the competition without a single win to their name.
Pakistan slumped to a 60-run defeat in the curtain-raiser against New Zealand and then were mauled by six wickets by India in Dubai. They were officially knocked out the moment New Zealand beat Bangladesh in Rawalpindi.
Though both Pakistan and Bangladesh exit the 2025 Champions Trophy with one point each, Bangladesh finishes higher due to a better Net Run Rate (NRR).
