As if the humiliation of getting bowled out on 91 was not enough, Pakistan were to face embarrassment as their player, Khushdil Shah, was fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on March 17 (Monday).
The fine, a 50 per cent deduction of the player’s match fee, was slapped on Khushdil for breaching ICC’s Code of Conduct during the first T20I of the five-match series, played on March 16 (Sunday) at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
Khushdil's incident occurred in the eighth over of Pakistan’s innings. When running between the wickets, Khushdil made inappropriate physical contact with bowler Zakary Foulkes with a high degree of force, which was reckless, negligent, and avoidable.
As a result, he was found guilty of a Level 2 breach, and three demerit points were added to the player’s disciplinary record. This was Khsudil's first addition to his record in 24 months.
Since the Pakistani player admitted to the offence, there was no need for a formal hearing.
