Pakistan had a really poor showing in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy as the home side exited the tournament by being last in their group. Huge preparations were made as Pakistan were hosting an ICC tournament for the first time after 1996, and stadiums in Lahore and Karachi were renovated to be ready for the marquee tournament.
However, with the India game being in Dubai and the Bangladesh game being rained out, Pakistan could eventually play just one game in the tournament in Pakistan.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), led by Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who’s also the current Internal Minister of Pakistan in the Shehbaz Sharif, was questioned by the former Internal minister Rana Sanaullah over the team's poor performance despite the huge allocation of funds.
"The PCB is an independent institution, and they have done as they pleased. However, I will urge the Prime Minister to discuss this in the Cabinet and Parliament,” Sanaullah told Geo TV.
He also questioned the mentors (Shoaib Malik, Misbah ul Haq amongst others) appointed by the PCB who were also involved in TV shows and criticised Pakistan’s performance heavily despite it being an apparent conflict of interest.
"The money spent at the PCB should be brought before Parliament,” the high-ranking official said.
“Mentors are being paid five million rupees, yet some admit they don't even know their responsibilities. This misuse of funds needs scrutiny,
"If you compare PCB's perks and privileges to the rest of Pakistan, you'd think it's a European nation. The Prime Minister will take notice of this."
Even earlier, questions were raised about the high salaries being paid to the mentors and the large team of selectors by the PCB, as the team has failed to perform in the last three ICC tournaments and has faced first-round exits from all three tournaments.
