The Pakistan spinners were on a roll in the third ODI of the three-match series at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad. In the match on November 8 (Saturday), the tweakers from the host nation picked eight out of the 10 South African wickets that fell on the day.
This was the highest number of wickets that Pakistan spinners ever picked against South Africa in an ODI match. It was one of the rare occasions in which spinners combined to take eight wickets in an innings.
The most wickets taken by spinners in an innings in ODIs is 10, a feat which was achieved by Oman against the Netherlands in 2024.
As far as this game is concerned, Abrar Ahmed, the mystery spinner, took four wickets and Mohammad Nawaz and Salman Ali Agha took two wickets each. The remaining two wickets, which were also the last two wickets to fall, were taken by Shaheen Afridi, the pacer.
As a result of this phenomenal bowling performance, Pakistan bowled the South African side out for 143. Pakistan chased the target down easily as Saim Ayub smashed 77 and helped his side reach the target with nearly 25 overs to spare.
With this win, Pakistan closed out the series 2-1, winning their first-ever ODI series against South Africa at home.
