Pakistan are set to take part in the next edition of the Road Safety World Series for the first time, according to a report on ESPNCricinfo. The tournament is set to take place in England for the first time after the first two seasons were held in India. According to the portal, the league has also received the approval of the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
The first two seasons of the Road Safety World Series took place in 2020 and 2022. The 2020 edition stopped after just four games due to the Covid-19 pandemic and was continued in 2021. Due to the strained relationship between the governments of India and Pakistan, there was no team from Pakistan taking part in the tournament.
Initially, the tournament featured teams from India, Sri Lanka, South Africa, West Indies and Australia, and when it resumed in 2021 in Raipur, Australia had pulled out due to travel restrictions and were replaced by Bangladesh.
The second season in 2022 - played in Raipur and Dehradun saw New Zealand join the other seven teams, which also saw the return of Australia. India Legends beat Sri Lanka Legends in the final at Raipur in both editions so far.
The 2023 edition could run from early September for three weeks, with Pakistan being the ninth team.
Some top cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, Kevin Pietersen, Sanath Jayasuriya, Shane Watson, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Yuvraj Singh and many more have featured in the tournament so far.
