Pakistan's Ayesha Naseem announces shock retirement at 18: Reports

The teenager stated her decision to step away from the sport is to lead a religious life

Ayesha Naseem, one of the rare batters in Pakistan cricket who could clear the boundary cushions with ease, has announced to bid adieu to the sport at the age of just 18, less than three years since she made her international debut.

The right-handed batter made her debut for the national side in 2020 and featured in four ODIs and 30 T20Is, amassing 33 and 369 runs in the two formats, respectively.

According to reports, she has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about her decision to step away from the sport to lead a religious life according to Islam.

The right-handed batter was the star performer for the Pakistan side against India in the league stage of the T20 World Cup, smashing 43 off 25 deliveries, including two sixes.

She was touted to be the next batting sensation of the national side as her exploits ensured Pakistan their highest T20I total of 149 against India.

She last played for her country in the T20 World Cup earlier this year in South Africa, where she scored 49 runs in two innings at a strike-rate in excess of 180.
