Rishabh Pant set the IPL 2025 Mega Auction on fire after he became the highest paid player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history as he was bought for INR 27 Cr by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on November 24 (Sunday) at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
This happened just minutes after Shreyas Iyer was paid a whopping INR 26.75 Cr by the Punjab Kings (PBKS). With that, Iyer had gone past Mitchell Starc’s price of INR 24.75 Cr (2024 auction) to become the most expensive player in IPL’s history.

Even before the auctioneer was ready to start the bidding, LSG raised the paddle at Pant’s base price of INR 2 Cr. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) entered the bidding war and the two teams had a duel till INR 11.25 Cr and then suddenly Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) entered the race and the price soared up to INR 17.75 with LSG still going for it.
The war between SRH and LSG soared Pant’s price to INR 20.75 Cr. Pant, who started his career with the Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2016, was not retained by the Delhi side this time around.
The Capitals did have the option of Right to Match (RTM). And they decided to use it. However, the biggest surprise was the price raised by the LSG, who took it all the way to INR 27 Cr, making it the biggest buy in the IPL history.
