Punjab Kings’ all-rounder Mitchell Owen, who registered a duck on IPL debut, smashed a 26-ball 60, laced with five sixes against MI New York, on June 22 (Sunday). The Washington Freedom all-rounder has been in sizzling form in Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025, with 156 runs, averaging 39, striking at nearly 230.
The right-hander has already smashed 12 sixes in the competition and was at his striking best in the clash against MI New York, where he started the innings with a first-ball four against Trent Boult. But when he was up against Rushil Ugarkar, the Australian was at his devastating best, smashing sixes for fun.
Owen smashed a six off Ugarkar’s very first delivery, and then piled up misery on the bowler, with two more sixes and a four in the over, smashing 22 runs off the second over. Even after the end of the powerplay, the Hobart Hurricanes man only knew one way to bat, and that was to play an attacking brand of cricket, smashing Boult for a four.
After a stellar 26-ball 60, Owen’s free-flowing innings came to an end, as Sunny Patel got his man with Nicholas Pooran taking the catch in the deep. But his 60 was more than enough to hand MINY another loss, as the Freedom chased down 189 with two wickets remaining, and four balls to spare.
