Punjab Kings (PBKS) have moved back into the top four of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Points Table on the back of a point gained at the Eden Gardens on April 26 (Saturday). But they will see it as a point lost, as rain played spoilsport with the Kings in pole position against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
PBKS won the toss, opted to bat and posted 201/4 on a pitch that was far from flat courtesy superb knocks from their openers Prabhsimran Singh (83) and Priyansh Arya (69). But with KKR 7/0 at the end of the first over of the chase, extremely heavy winds forced the players to go off the field. Rain soon arrived and a combination of heavy rains and strong winds stopped the action from resuming.
The players and officials were still hopeful of a restart when they went off the field, but the rain never relented, and thus the contest had to be abandoned.
KKR remain at 7th spot with 7 points to their name, while PBKS are fourth with 11 points. But this result is a serious blow to Punjab’s chances of finishing in the top two, considering there are three other sides (RCB, DC, GT) who already have more points than them having played either the same number of or fewer games.
We are guaranteed to have a new table topper at the end of tomorrow, with DC taking on RCB at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
