It’s been a tough start to the 2025 Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson. First things first, he’s had to battle a finger injury, due to which he could not skipper the side across the first three matches. In his absence, RR won just two of their first three games under Riyan Parag’s captaincy.
Samson also didn’t get going with the bat either, registering scores of 66, 13 and 20. He looked in fine touch in the Sunrisers Hyderabad clash first up but got out cheaply against both Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Against the backdrop, captaining the side for the first time this season, Samson looked in excellent touch against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur. He got off to a brisk start, getting a few boundaries away, and batted through the first 10 overs. Batting on 34* at the start of the 11th over, Samson looked set for a massive score.
However, against the run of play, he threw his wicket away against Lockie Ferguson, hitting a half volley straight to the throat of Shreyas Iyer at mid-off, who took a simple catch. And just like that, Samson had squandered another opportunity, perishing for 26 off 38 balls.
Unable to contain his frustration, the RR skipper launched his bat in the air and gave it a good spin. Such was the force with which Samson launched the bat that it hung in the air for a good few seconds, and spun multiple times.
