PCB a silent observer in Jay Shah's elevation as ICC chief: Reports

Shah took over as the BCCI secretary in 2019 and had a fruitful five years

Jay Shah was announced as the new ICC chairman on August 27 (Tuesday) and will officially take charge from December 1. He was unanimously elected to the governing body's top post, being the sole nominee, but according to reports, he did not get all the votes. Among the 16 members of the ICC, 15 voted in favour of Shah, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) remained a silent observer.

"There wasn’t any word from PCB. Not that it was required because Shah had overwhelming support from the members. But the Pakistan board preferred to play the role of a spectator during the entire process," told a source close to developments to News 18.

Shah took over as the BCCI secretary in 2019 and had a fruitful five years. Among other achievements, he oversaw the introduction of the Women's Premier League (WPL) and the new National Cricket Academy (NCA).

"I am humbled by the nomination as the Chair of the International Cricket Council," Shah said after the election.

"I am committed to working closely with the ICC team and our member nations to further globalise cricket. We stand at a critical juncture where it is increasingly important to balance the coexistence of multiple formats, promote the adoption of advanced technologies, and introduce our marquee events to new global markets. Our goal is to make cricket more inclusive and popular than ever before."
