PCB chairman Ramiz Raja keen to revive Indo-Pak rivalry outside ICC events

Raja is pondering proposing an annual quadrangular series involving India, Pakistan, England and Australia

Ramiz Raja, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is keen on resuming the India-Pakistan rivalry outside of ICC events, and is set to ponder proposing an annual quadrangular series involving India, Pakistan, England and Australia in the next ICC meeting to ensure resumption of cricket between the two countries outside of ICC events.

It has been nearly a decade since India and Pakistan have clashed in game outside of ICC events (T20 World Cup, 50-over World Cup, Champions Trophy) and Asia Cup, due to political tension, but Raja told codesports.com.au that he will ‘definitely’ propose the introduction of the aforementioned four-nation tournament that will be played in the T20 format.

“It’s not going to happen right now, but who knows. I have a good mind of proposing a rugby Six Nations-style series that they have a cricket series, a T20 international series outside the FTP [Future Tours Programme] where Australia, England, India and Pakistan can play. Four sides,” Raja told codesports.com.au.

“I was thinking of maybe introducing this concept at the ICC meeting.

“If India and Pakistan are not willing to play bilaterally, involve them in a four nation [event], and so every year this tournament could go to England, Australia, Pakistan and India and take it from there.

“I will [propose it], definitely I will. So this is breaking news.”

India and Pakistan last clashed outside of ICC events (and Asia Cup) back in 2012/13, when Pakistan toured India for 2 T20Is and 3 ODIs. While the spoils were shared in the T20Is, the Men in Green won the three-match ODI series 2-1, winning in both Kolkata and Chennai.
