PCB plans connection camp to restore Pakistan cricket’s pride: Reports

The camp is part of the rebranding of Pakistan’s cricket on the lines of the cultural reset achieved by England after their 2015 World Cup disaster

After failing to win a single Test in any of the last 10 matches at home, failing to make it through to the semi-final in the ODI World Cup 2023, the final in the preceding Asia Cup, and crashing out of the group stages of the T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan is facing probably its biggest setback in cricketing history as fans seem to have lost faith in the side.

Bangladesh's 2-0 clean sweep in the Test series only rubbed salt in those wounds. Now, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is trying to mitigate all the problems and rebrand the nation’s cricket with a planned ‘connection camp’ if reports from ESPNcricinfo are to be believed.

The camp, scheduled to be held on September 23 would be the start of the rebranding program, which would be planned on the lines of a cultural reset program, successfully undertaken by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) after their disastrous 2015 ODI World Cup campaign.

The connection camp would be a formal meeting between Pakistan’s head coaches Gary Kirsten (white-ball) and Jason Gillespie (red-ball), the board chairman Mohsin Naqvi, captains Shan Masood (red-ball) and Babar Azam (white-ball) and some senior centrally contracted players.

The meeting will be held in Lahore on an off-day during the Champions One-Day Cup, which will get underway on September 12 and go on till September 29. This domestic 50-over tournament, involving all the major Pakistan cricketers, is supposed to bring a pool of 100 players from which the management can draw players that can fulfil national duties.
