The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has come under scrutiny, this time for financial irregularities. The Auditor General of Pakistan has revealed that PCB lost PKR 198 million due to the awarding of media rights at less than the reserved price and failed to recover USD 99 million for awarding international media rights without open competition and PKR 5.3 billion for non-recovery of outstanding sponsorship amounts.
This is not the first time that the Auditor General has warned PCB of irregularities, but no chairman has yet been held accountable. Across the last three years, PCB has had three chairmen, including former cricketer Ramiz Raja, Najam Sethi and Zaka Ashraf. Mohsin Naqvi has been in charge of PCB since February 2024.
The other irregularities on the part of PCB include paying PKR 63.39 million to the police force for providing security during international matches, unauthorised appointments of coaches at the Under-16 level at the high-performance centre in Karachi, and irregular ticketing contracts without open competition, amounting to PKR 5.4 million
