After four gruelling encounters between the two sides – India and South Africa – it boiled down to the decider T20I in Bengaluru to seal the fate for the sides. However, as fate would have it, persistent rain in the city played spoil-sport as the series ended in a draw 2-2.
The start of the fifth T20I was delayed due to rain. But since that, the match began in the most outrageous manners, with Ishan Kishan smacking two sixes in the very first over. However, on the back of an impressive spell from Lungi Ngidi, the Proteas made a comeback, restricting India to 28/2 before the long spell of rain brought curtains down the game.
South Africa took a lead in the series, courtesy of their thundering seven-wicket win at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, chasing 211. The Proteas, then completed yet another impressive win in Cuttack, where Heinrich Klaasen’s 46-ball 81 gave the visitors an easy win.
However, as the bandwagon moved down south to Vishakhapatnam, India registered their first win of the series, where a collective performance both with the bat and ball put India within touching distance of drawing the series.
India followed that impressive win with a dominant victory in Rajkot, clawing back momentum heading into the decider in Bengaluru. As the rain would have it, the series ended 2-2, as both sides would draw plenty of positives.
