Pierre de Bruyn Steps Down As Namibia Head Coach
De Bruyn took charge of the side in 2019 and guided Namibia to their most successful period
Pierre de Bruyn has stepped down as Namibia head coach after over six years at the helm, Cricket Namibia announced on April 25 (Friday).
Namibian cricket reached its peak under de Bruyn, achieving the ODI status in 2019. Moreover, the Eagles also played three back-to-back T20 World Cups in 2021, 2022 and most recently in 2024. Nambia made it to the Super 12s in 2021 and the following year, they beat former champions Sri Lanka as well.
“We are immensely grateful to Pierre for his vision, leadership, and the legacy he leaves behind,” said Johan Muller, CEO of Cricket Namibia.
“His impact will be felt for years to come, and while we are sad to see him go, we respect and support his decision to prioritise his family and pursue a new chapter in his career.”
Namibia will appoint their next head coach in due course. He will be entrusted to guide Namibia into their fourth successive T20 World Cup and also qualify for the 50-over ODI World Cup, which Namibia are co-hosting along with South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Reflecting on his stint with Namibia, de Bruyn said, “This decision has been one of the hardest I’ve ever made. Stepping away after 6 years isn’t easy, but my heart is telling me it’s time to focus on the people who matter most—my family. I’ve poured so much of myself into this role, and it’s been an unforgettable journey filled with growth, connection, and purpose.
"Now, I’m ready to turn the page and begin a new chapter—one that allows me to be more present at home and embrace what life has in store. I leave with deep gratitude and love for everyone who’s been part of this story. I’m incredibly grateful for the support, friendship, and opportunities I’ve experienced here.”
