Mumbai Indians seem to have set their eyes on Jonny Bairstow of England to replace his compatriot Will Jacks in their side for the playoff stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Bairstow, who has played exactly 100 Tests and scored more than 6000 runs in the red-ball format, is more than a capable hitter in the white-ball formats as well.
According to a report by ESPN cricinfo, “Bairstow is in advanced talks to sign with Mumbai Indians as a temporary replacement for Will Jacks, if they qualify for the IPL play-offs.”
After completing the sign-up under the IPL’s new temporary replacement policy, whereby the franchise will be under no obligation to keep the player in their squad for the next season, Bairstow will have to get a No Objection Certificate from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
Having made his IPL debut in 2019 for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the Yorkshire man has already smashed two IPL centuries in his 50 appearances in the league, averaging a solid 34.54 with the bat and striking at 144.45.
Bairstow scored a century in IPL 2024 for Punjab Kings (PBKS), but went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
