Player With 7 World Cup Appearances Charged With Robbery During ICC Tournament
He will remain in custody at least till November 28 after bail was denied
Papua New Guinea (PNG) Wicketkeeper Kipling Doriga has been charged with robbery during the ICC CWC Challenge League tournament on the island of Jersey, according to a report on Cricbuzz. The incident is believed to have taken place on Monday (August 25) morning in St Heliers.
The 29-year-old also appeared before the Magistrate's court on August 27 (Wednesday) and pleaded guilty. Bail was declined, and as a result, he will be in custody at least till November 28, after Relief Magistrate Rebecca Morley-Kirk judged the charge too serious.
Doriga was part of PNG's T20 World Cup squad in 2021 and 2024, making a total of seven appearances across the two tournaments.
He has played 39 One-Day Internationals (ODI) and 43 T20 Internationals (T20I) for his country, scoring over 1,000 runs across both formats. In the two matches in the CWC Challenge League, Doriga scored 68 off 84 against Denmark, and then followed that up with 12 off 29 in the next game against Kuwait. PNG lost both games.
PNG are yet to book their place in the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be played in India and Sri Lanka. They will play in the mega event if they finish among the top three sides in the 2025 Men's T20 World Cup Asia–EAP Regional Final, which will be played in Oman in October.
