‘Playing for Scorchers could free him up’ - Adam Voges on Mitchell Marsh

Marsh is set to play his first Big Bash League game in almost three years

Perth Scorchers named Mitchell Marsh in the squad to face Melbourne Renegades in what would be his first Big Bash League (BBL) appearance in three years. The 33-year-old all-rounder was dropped from Australia’s setup for the fifth Test in Sydney, where Beau Webster made his Test debut.

Alongside Marsh, the Scorchers welcomed Jhye Richardson, who was part of Australia’s squad for the Sydney game. The speedster has been one of Scorchers’ best bowlers this BBL season. He has six wickets at an average of 13.5 to his kitty.

It would be an opportunity for Marsh to showcase his form ahead of Australia’s tour of Sri Lanka later this month.

"If anything, hopefully (playing for the Scorchers) would free Mitch up," Perth coach Adam Voges said recently.

"International cricket is such high pressure and Test cricket and an Indian series just adds to that. We'd love to have him back in orange and see if he can smack a few balls around here,” he added.

Scorchers will also welcome Ashton Agar back in the mix, with the left-arm spinner missing out on their last clash against Sydney Thunder with a back spasm. Currently, on fourth, the Men in Orange and Black would want to reignite their season, where they have had just three wins out of six games.
