Despite having an indifferent start to IPL 2022 with two wins and two defeats, Delhi Capitals' players are backed by head coach Ricky Ponting to play their natural game, said Shardul Thakur.
DC, who reached the final in 2020 and the playoffs last season, are sixth in the 10-team table after winning against Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders with the losses against Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants sandwiched in between.
"The team is moving in the right direction and our head coach Ricky Ponting has always told us to play our natural game no matter what the situation is. He backs us so we always try to give our best," Thakur said in a DC media release.
The big win by 44 runs against KKR will boost their confidence as Thakur felt the team composition is very balanced.
"The environment within the team is quite good. There are a lot of youngsters in the team and we are all friends as we've been playing together for some time," Thakur said.
DC also has Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel and Rovman Powell in their ranks, all who can bowl and bat.
"We have great depth in our batting. The more all-rounders are there, the better it is for any team in T20s," Thakur said.
"If we lose quick wickets at the top, then the role of the players batting at 6,7 & 8 becomes important," Thakur was quoted as saying in a DC media release.
Thakur himself has done well as the other allrounder in the team, claiming three wickets and scoring 51 runs in the lower-middle order.
"I like to make an impact in every match I play and that's why I play with a lot of energy," said the 30-year old, who scored an unbeaten 29 off 11 balls against KKR.
"I look to enjoy playing cricket. I have worked hard to reach this stage so I don't want to put myself under any kind of pressure. Even when the crowd cheers for our opponents in the stadium, I look to enjoy those situations."
