Pragyan Ojha, RP Singh Favourites For India Selector Role: Reports
The decision is expected to take place at the BCCI AGM on September 28
Former cricketers Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh are among the frontrunners for the India selector role, according to a report on Sportstar. This comes after the exits of S Sharath and Subroto Banerjee.
Praveen Kumar, Amay Khurasiya, Ashish Winston Zaidi, and Shakti Singh are also among the applicants. However, it is understood that Ojha and RP Singh were specifically asked to apply for the post. The Cricket Advisory Committee, headed by Ashok Malhotra, is expected to announce the names at the BCCI AGM, scheduled for September 28.
Ojha has picked up 144 wickets across formats for India, for whom he has played 24 Tests, 18 ODIs and six T20Is. He also served on the IPL governing council.
RP Singh, who was part of India's T20 World Cup triumph in 2007, has played 82 matches for India, picking up 124 wickets. He has previously served as a member of the CAC before taking up commentary on a full-time basis.
The BCCI eligibility dictates that the applicant must have played a minimum of seven Tests, 30 First-Class matches, or 10 ODIs and 20 First-Class games. Moreover, the candidate should have retired from professional cricket and not have served on any BCCI committee for a cumulative period of over five years.
