The bottom half teams, Rajasthan Royals takes on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 14th match of the tournament at Jaipur. Both the teams have lost their opening three matches and will be desperate to get into winning ways to be in contention for the playoffs. After having CSK on the mat for half of the first innings, Rajasthan lost plot during the death overs after leaking 75 runs. They suffered early blows during their chase but Stokes combined with Archer gave them some respite. They finally fell short by 6 runs. On the contrary RCB were blown away by the power hitting of Bairstow and Warner and from then it was very difficult for them to claw back into the game.

The wicket in Sawaimansingh is not a belter for the batsmen to score freely from the onset. Infact in 2018 batsmen were scoring at 7.81 runs per over which was the lowest among all venues after Hyderabad. The average score is expected to be around 160 with the ball gripping and helping the spinners as the match progresses.

We have excluded MA Chidambaram stadium because only 1 match was played at that venue in 2018.

In 2018, spinners have done well at this venue. Last time when Rajasthan and Bangalore met at this venue it was the Rajasthan spinners who made an impact. Rajasthan batted first and gave a target of 165 but the Bangalore batsmen were bamboozled by leggie Shreyas Gopal and offie Krishnappa Gowtham. Gopal and Gowtham took 6 wickets between them to reduce RCB to 134 in their allotted 20 overs.

In this venue spinners who have bowled with an average speed of 84-87 have tasted more success. In the power play overs captains have attacked with off spinners which makes a strong case for Moeen Ali and Krishnappa Gowtham. The trend continues in the middle phase too. In this phase leg spinners have not only done most of the damage but have been miser too. Piyush Chawla, Ish Sodhi, Markande have done well at this venue.

If spin is going to play a crucial part we must where both the team stands against spinners in IPL 2018. Last year RCB’s performance against spin was not impressive. After Mumbai they have a worst dismissal and strike rate against spinners. Barring Kohli and ABD most of the batsmen have struggled against spinners.

Barring Kohli and ABD most of the batsmen have struggled against spinners. In 2018 RCB batsmen went at strike rate of 127 in the powerplay overs and it dropped down to 115 in the middle phase. RCB’s nemises against spin has continued in this season as well and was one of factors for them losing to SRH on Sunday. Mohammad Nabi took 4 wickets and broke the backbone of the chase.   However they will be bolstered by the addition of Marcus Stoinis and Nathan Coulter-Nile who has returned from national duty. Their inclusion will not only boost the batting but the bowling as well.
