Prithvi Shaw seemed to have awakened the inner Navot Singh Sidhu as he raised his willow to try and hit Mumbai bowler Musheer Khan, after he was dismissed by the latter in a warm-up red-ball match on October 7 (Tuesday) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Gahunje, Pune.
Sidhu is notoriously infamous for raising a bat against Pakistan's Aamer Sohail during the 1996 World Cup.
After smashing a fine 181 off just 219 balls, Shaw was caught in the deep off the bowling of Musheer, Sarfaraz Khan's younger brother.
After the dismissal, Musheer apparently gave a send-off to Shaw, who could not handle that patiently and raised his willow to nearly hit the bowler. The on-field umpires did the damage control and separated Shaw from the Mumbai team hurdle.
Shaw, who played all his cricket for Mumbai before this season, also had a verbal duel with senior Mumbai batter Siddesh Lad. The batter, who has also played for India in all three formats and is looking to make inroads to the national team again, reached his hundred in 140 balls, after first reaching fifty in 84 balls.
The opening pair of Shaw and under-19 star Arshin Kulkarni put on a massive 305-run partnership that sucked all the air out of the Mumbai bowling, featuring the likes of Shardul Thakur and Tushar Deshpande. Kulkarni scored 186 as well.
