Mohammad Rizwan lit up the opening weekend of the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) with a century against Karachi Kings, but that wasn’t enough to take his team over the line as Multan Sultans got comprehensively beaten by the Kings, who chased down 235 with four balls to spare.
Rizwan scored 105* off 63 balls as Multan posted 234/3 in 20 overs. They were 149/3 after 15 overs with Rizwan on 64* off 48 balls, but late acceleration from the right-hander, and cameos from Michael Bracewell (44* off 17) and Kamran Ghulam (36 off 19) took Multan to 234.
However, a stunning 43-ball from 101 from James Vince dwarfed Rizwan’s efforts and took the Kings to victory.
On the back of the result, Rizwan came under the scanner for his strike rate in the contest, which read 166.67 despite him playing more than half the innings. While Rizwan scored 105 off 63 balls, the rest of the Multan batters put on 107 off the remaining 57 balls, with Karachi conceding 22 extras.
This was Rizwan’s third ton in T20s, and the first instance of his team ending up on the losing side after him bringing up three figures.
Meanwhile, Karachi's victory gave David Warner his first win as a player and captain in the PSL.
