PSL 2025: Saud Shakeel Plays Embarrassing 33* Off 40 As Opener In 176 Chase

Shakeel’s 33* off 40 is the slowest knock by any batter in the PSL across the last five years

In one of the most bizarre knocks in the history of T20 cricket, Quetta Gladiators’ Saud Shakeel batted the entirety of 20 overs and ended up with 33* off 40 balls as his side ended with 119/9 in a run chase of 176 to slip to a 56-run defeat.

Shakeel opened the batting for Quetta, who lost a flurry of wickets up front, getting reduced to 37/5 inside the powerplay. From this point onwards, Shakeel, who was 13* off 11 balls at the end of the powerplay, completely put on the handbrakes as he added just 20 off his next 29 balls while batting out the entirety of the 20 overs.

Shakeel hit two boundaries in the first three overs and then remarkably did not hit a single boundary till the start of the 16th over, which was also a top-edge off the bowling of Hasan Ali.

Shakeel’s 33* off 40 is the slowest knock by any batter in the PSL across the last five years.

Lowest strike rate in an innings in the PSL since 2020 (min 40 balls)

82.50 - Saud Shakeel vs Karachi Kings in 2025

97.87 - Matthew Wade vs Multan Sultans in 2023

100.00 - Tom Kohler-Cadmore vs Islamabad United in 2021

It was a grim batting performance overall from Quetta. Only three batters posted double digits, and their best batter on the night was Mohammad Amir, who hit 30 off 16 balls. Before Amir’s cameo, Quetta were 67/7 in 14 overs.
