Punjab Kings have 'lot to discuss' after season end, says Mayank

Punjab Kings ended their IPL 2022 campaign with an easy five-wicket win over SRH

Punjab Kings captain Mayank Agarwal felt that the team has a lot to ponder over their middling IPL 2022 campaign following the five-wicket win Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final league match.

Punjab finished sixth in the table with seven wins and seven losses as Mayank pointed to the multiple mistakes they have done.

"With the brand of cricket we played, there are going to be times it won't come off and we won't look good. We couldn't stitch back-to-back wins. As a batting unit, we lost wickets in a cluster," Mayank said at the post-match presentation on Sunday.

Despite the shortcomings, Mayank was pleased with the performances of Liam Livingstone, Shikhar Dhawan and Arshdeep Singh.

"The way Livingstone batted, the brand of cricket we played, Shikhar's been consistent over the years, Arsh put his hand up," he said.

"We have been a very positive unit. Lot of it we will discuss now after the IPL. We were here and we meant business and looked to execute things to the best of our ability," he added.

SRH's stand-in captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar felt that his team were short by a mile after posting 157/8 in 20 overs on a good batting pitch.

"I wouldn't say we were few runs short, we were many short... Match could have been closer," he said.

The pacer rued the dropped catches as he reflected on the positives in the form of Umran Malik, Rahul Tripathi and Abhishek Sharma.

"Fielding not up to the mark... Last match of the season, we can reflect on the season and come back stronger next year. First half was brilliant. Second half was make it or break it. In second half we didn't come good as a team," he said.

SRH finished eighth in the table after losing six of their last seven matches.

"Have to come back strong next year. Many positives; Umran is one of them. Look at Abhishek Sharma, and we can't forget Rahul Tripathi," he said.
