Punjab Kings add Adil Rashid as Jhye Richardson's replacement for IPL remainder
NEWSPunjab confirmed that the English leg-spinner would replace Australian pacer Jhye Richardson for the second half of the IPL
After the Australian duo of Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith pulled out of the second half of the 2021 Indian Premier League season, the franchise has roped in Adil Rashid and Nathan Ellis as their replacement. On Friday (August 20), the franchise confirmed the signing of Nathan Ellis and on Thursday (August 26), they added Adil Rashid to their rooster for the remainder of the IPL season.
Rashid walks in as the third leg-spinner in the squad, with Ravi Bishnoi and Murugan Ashwin being already present in the setup. However, the English spinner would add plenty of experience to the spin unit, which in the past has struggled for composure and experience.
The leg-spinner now would follow the footsteps of countrymen Dawid Malan and Chris Jordan, in joining the franchise. The 33-year-old also was the leading wicket-taker for the Northern Superchargers in the recently concluded season of The Hundred.
Having played all over the world in the shortest format, it would be the leg-spinner’s first assignment in the IPL, with Punjab kicking off their second half of the tournament against Rajasthan Royals.
