Indian Premier League's (IPL) leading wicket-taker Yuzvendra Chahal misses out on the Qualifier 1 fixture against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Mullanpur. Chahal also missed PBKS' last match against Mumbai Indians (MI) as he was nursing a wrist injury, as confirmed by their spin-bowling coach Sunil Joshi.
The 34-year-old does not even feature in the impact subs list, as the franchise does not want to aggravate his injury. Chahal is PBKS' third-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2025, with 14 scalps behind Marco Jansen (16) and Arshdeep Singh (18).
Chahal, who was bought for INR 18 crore at the auction, started the season off slowly. He picked up just two wickets in his first five matches, but a four-wicket haul against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) turned his season around. He was among the wickets after that and in fact, finished with 4/32 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as well.
Harpreet Brar has to lead Punjab Kings' (PBKS) spin department in Chahal's absence. Moreover, Jansen has left for international duty and has been replaced by Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai.
A win for PBKS will get them to their first IPL final since 2014.
