Quinton de Kock's record-breaking knock powers Lucknow into the playoffs

Here are a few noteworthy stats from Match 66 of IPL 2022 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai

Quinton de Kock's scintillating innings

The fans at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai were enthralled to a masterclass as Quinton de Kock displayed an array of strokes all around the ground to score his second hundred in the Indian Premier League.

After opting to bat first in this crucial encounter, de Kock made optimum use of the reprieve he received on 12 and punished the Knight Riders to all parts of the ground with his scintillating strokeplay.

The southpaw scored an unbeaten 140 runs off 70 deliveries studded with 10 boundaries and 10 maximums to propel the team to 210 runs in the first innings.

This record-breaking knock was the third-highest score in the history of the league surpassing AB de Villiers's 133 for Bangalore against Mumbai in 2015. Chris Gayle, with his destructive 175 and Brendon McCullum's 158 in the inaugural game of the league, are the top two highest individual scores.

The partnerhsip that set the tone for Lucknow

The batting unit of the Super Giants have been heavily reliant on KL Rahul and de Kock to help the team get off to a good start in the powerplay.

In this high-voltage clash, the duo started the innings steadily accumulating the ones and the twos before launching an attack once they got their eye in.

They added an unbeaten 210 runs for the opening wicket, which is the highest partnership for the first wicket in the history of the competition. David Warner and Jonny Bairstow scored 185 runs for the Sunrisers Hyderabad against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2019, which is the second-highest.

KL Rahul's consistent run

One of the most consistent performers in the IPL, KL Rahul, has amassed 537 runs in 14 league matches at an average of 48.82.

En route to his sublime innings of 68 off 51 deliveries, Rahul equalled David Warner's record of five successive seasons with over 500 runs.

The Australian opening batter achieved this feat from 2014 to 2018, while Rahul's run started in 2018 to 2022.

A rare feat in the IPL

While plenty of records tumbling at the DY Patil Stadium, for the first time in the history of the IPL, a team batting first has not lost a wicket in their entire quota of 20 overs.

While we have witnessed sides chasing down totals with 10 wickets to spare, the partnership of Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul was the first instance of a team not losing a wicket in the first innings.

Shreyas Iyer's counter-attacking innings

While de Kock and his exploits were the highlight of the game, Shreyas Iyer played one of his best innings in the tournament to help the Knight Riders get inches closer to the target.

The skipper of the Knight Riders walked in with his side tottering at nine for the loss of two wickets. Along with Nitish Rana, he made optimum use of the field restrictions to score some quick runs and get the required run rate down.

The right-handed raced to his half-century off 28 deliveries, which is the second-quickest for him in the IPL to set the platform for the big hitters in the side in this massive run chase.

His brutal fifty for Delhi Capitals against the Knight Riders in 2020 at Sharjah in 26 deliveries is the fastest for him in the league.

Raining sixes at the DY Patil

With 418 runs scored across two innings, it was a run feast at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. The match witnessed 27 sixes being hit, which is the most in any game in this edition. The previous best was 19 in a game featuring the Mumbai Indians and the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium.
